Dentistry Courses
Dental school, like medical school, is not for the faint of heart. It takes a grueling four years to complete, but you will emerge a licensed dentist after years if dentistry courses.
The first year includes basic science courses, anatomy, physiology, and craniofacial function. You will also have courses in ethics and professionalism, dental health promotion, and practice management.
If that isn't enough you will also take intro to clinical experience. No hands on stuff yet, but it's coming,
The second year includes more advanced science courses and yes, you'll get some hands on experience. You get to practice on each other. At the end of the third trimester, you will start group practice. That's not all though. You will take a board review course, very important because you must pass the National Board Part 1 in order to be promoted. No pressure here.
The third and fourth years concentrate on clinical skills and hands on workshops. You may even be assigned for a five week period to work outside the school.
Throughout the last two years, competency exams and seminars will prepare you for your state licensing board exams. If you decide to specialize, you will be looking at an additional two to four years of advanced training in that specialty.
Once you pass your state's licensing exam you will be able to practice dentistry. All that hard work was worth it.
